Tiny Hearts History

As a pediatrician, Dra. Vicky works part-time at the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen.  The General Hospital is obligated to help everyone.  They have excellent doctors and the charge is minimal. 

As a Seaside Rotary member, she keeps Seaside Rotary informed about the critical needs facing the hospital in the care of the babies, children and mothers served by the General Hospital. 

Small requests are funded from our current budget or member's pockets, but there are times when the need is greater than that.  

In January 2025, we were also looking for a way to get visitors, locals, other Rotary Clubs and the expat community (who also use the General Hospital), to be more involved in helping with the larger needs at the General Hospital.  We put together a donation campaign and spread the word around.  

Our ongoing project, Tiny Hearts, was born from these efforts and is used to support and fund the larger General Hospital needs.  

Tiny Hearts has been so successful that we were able to purchase the first set of needed equipment (infusion pump and pulse co-oximeter) and are now working on funding the second set of equipment for the outpatient clinic. 

And, the word is out!  The success of Tiny Hearts has spurred other doctors to let us know what their clinics need.
